Orson's father Richard Welles was a partner in the Badger Brass Manufacturing Company. His family separated and moved to Chicago when Orson was about five years old. Welles would go on to become one of the greatest film directors and actors of all time.
Additional information: The address of this house in 1915 was 463 Park Avenue. Orson Welles was born here May 6, 1915, at 7 a.m. [1] Richard H. Welles and Beatrice Ives Welles and their first son, Dickie, had lived there since 1913, initially renting the lower rooms to traveling salesmen.[2] Biographer Charles Higham wrote, "The house, though nice enough and only a stone's throw from Rudolphsheim [the Gottfredsen mansion built by Richard Welles's mother, still standing at 711 61st Street], was certainly not of the standard of the mansions occupied by Richard's partner's, Frost and Yule."[2] The present address is 6114–6116 Seventh Avenue.[3]
