DescriptionOpening Auckland Electric Tramways - November 24 1902.jpg
English: This photograph was transferred to Archives New Zealand by the City of Vancouver Archives in 1987. This and other photographs had been donated to the Vancouver Archives by Thomas Duncan's daughter-in-law, SG MacDonald. Thomas Charles Duncan was a Canadian engineer who worked in Auckland in the early 20th Century helping to install Auckland's first electric trams. The 72km network provided links to the city centre from suburbs such as Avondale, Mt Roskill, Onehunga and Meadowbank. By 1956 the network had been dismantled and replaced with diesel and trolley buses.
