English: Oliver de Critz (c.1626–1651) was the son of John de Critz (c.1552–1642) by his third wife. This painting has generally been taken to be a self portrait and on the basis of the inscription, attributed to Oliver de Critz, who, in 1646, inherited from his grandfather 'my greene Cloake', which he wears here. However, it has also been argued that it is a self portrait by Oliver's half-brother, Thomas de Critz (1607–1653).
