This old chimney, standing on its own, is all that remains of Quarlton Vale Printworks which was established in the early 1800s.
The works, which were located in the bottom of the valley finally closed in 1964 and is now a housing development.
The church in the background is Edgworth Methodist Church.
A detached chimney is a common feature of the narrow valleys in this area. The boiler would be located in the factory at the bottom of the valley and an underground flue would bring the smoke to the base of the chimney.
