Summary
| Description | Built in 1889, this Romanesque Revival-style building was built to serve as the Montvale Hotel, and later served as a Single Room Occupancy (SRO) apartment building, a brothel, and a youth hostel during Expo ’74. The building features a red brick exterior with arched bays on the third floor, decorative patterned brickwork, one-over-one double-hung windows, a suspended metal canopy over the main entrance bay, and large first floor bays with contemporary storefronts and cast iron columns. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998, and is a contributing structure in the West Downtown Historic Transportation Corridor, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. The building today serves as the Montvale Hotel. |
