English: Approximate map of the road system in the Middle Assyrian Empire, per Düring (2020), p. 110. Purple roads are archaeologically attested and red roads are "likely routes", based on geography, textual evidence and roads of the later Neo-Assyrian Empire. The squares mark settlements (some of which the contemporary names are not known), triangles mark dunnu (prominent estates), the crosses mark known water sources and the circles mark known road stations. |
