English: Micrograph showing metaplastic atrophic gastritis in keeping with autoimmune metaplastic atrophic gastritis, abbreviated AMAG. H&E stain / chromogranin A immunostain / gastrin immunostain.

AMAG is characterized by loss of parietal cells which are usually abundant in the body of the stomach.

MAG is the gastric histologic correlate of pernicous anemia. AMAG describes the histology in conjunction with serologic testing. Positive serology includes: elevated gastrin, antibodies to parietal cells and intrincic factor.
