Description
Flemish painter, drawer, miniaturist and court painter
"In 1684, at the age of twenty-four and while still Marquis of Collugado, he was appointed
Commander General of the Galleys of Naples by Charles II. It was probably to commemorate this occasion
that he had his portrait painted by the Italian-based Fleming, Jakob Voet (Fig.32) Looking older than his
age on account of his heavy wig, he stares arrogantly out of the picture, with an old-fashioned helmet on the table
as symbol of his authority and a suitably solemn curtain as a backdrop." - Vicente Lleo Canal, "The Art Collection of the Ninth Duke of Medinaceli", The Burlington Magazine, Vol. 131, No. 1031 (Feb., 1989), pp. 108-116.
