Description
Mary Elizabeth Mackie (1844-1922) of Cliff House, Calder Grove, near Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England, and of Watford Villa, New Mills, Derbyshire. She was the wife of John Mackie who was the owner of Cliff Colliery and Fireclay Works near Calder Grove, and who was a local benefactor, providing schools and other benefits. With her husband she was a co-benefactor of the Church of St James the Less, New Mills in 1880. She funded the building of the Church of St John the Divine in Calder Grove, in her husband's memory in 1892-1893.
