Description
English: Italy Italy, Tuscany, Marina di Pisa, Via Inghirami. The memorial monument to the crew of the Italian Air Force Aeritalia G.222TCM (MM62113) downed in Bosnia. The plane on September 3, 1992, during a relief flight n. 2117 on behalf of the United Nations, carrying five tons of blankets, departed from Split Airport to Sarajevo Airport, was shot down by a Stinger missile. At 11.26 GMT any contact with the plane went lost. Two CH-53 rescue helicopters reached the crash site near the town of Jasenj 34 km from Sarajevo, some time after they were forced to end the mission because of arms fire. The Italian crew was composed of: Lieutenant Colonel Pilot Betti Marco, Major Pilot Rigliaco Marco, Marshal Buttaglieri Giuseppe and Marshal Velardi Giuliano.
