Summary
DescriptionMaiolica stand, Lodi, Italy, Coppellotti factory, 18th century.jpg |
English: Maiolica stand.
Shape: square (side 25.5 cm), each side of the square has a hemicircular lobe; on the 2 sides there are 2 pots which may have been used for flowers or candles. Underside: Circular stand, with central mark “AMC” with intertwined letters; the “AMC” mark is attributed to the Antonio Maria Coppellotti factory. Decoration: gran fuoco (underglaze) firing, monochromatic blue, there is a central frame with 2 female figures and vegetable décor at the sides; 2 putti (chubby male children) underneath, one holding a heart, the second holding an arrow. Inside the central frame, a scene with a church and a hunter with his rifle and dog. The rest of the stand, including the 2 pots, is decorated with arabesques and symmetric geometric-floral patterns. The edge is marked with a periodic pattern made by a line and 2 dots, typical of Lodi ceramics. It is thought to be a wedding present, due to the various symbols of love and marriage, such as the church, the heart, the Cupid arrow and the dog, symbol of fidelity. Private collection This stand is the object of the following publication, which is the source of the information reported above: Felice Ferrari, Ceramica.
Collezione privata.
