English: The Maçãzinhas are one of the 8 main festivities of the Nicolinas. The Maçãzinhas happen on December 6th in Guimarães, Portugal. Female teens or young adults stay in the balconies of the buildings and wait for a man to give them an apple (maçã) that is attached to the point of a spear (as it simbolizes a love proposal). If the girl takes the Apple and puts a gift in the point of the spear, for the man, then his love is matched. |
