DescriptionMCDONALDS-KLINES MILL, SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ.jpg
English: THIS WAS ORIGINALLY A LUMBER MILL AND LATER A GRIST MILL DATING FROM THE 19TH CENTURY. THE FIRST MILL WAS STARTED BY WILLIAM MCDONALD CIRCA 1744. IT EVENTUALLY WAS OWNED BY THE WIFE OF JACOB KLINE AND STAYED IN THE FAMILY UNTIL 1899, THE MILL IS NOW BEEN REFURBISHED BUT STILL RETAINS SAWMILL MACHINERY INSIDE. IT IS LOCATED ON THE NORTH BRANCH OF THE RARITAN RIVER ON A PRIVATE ESTATE
THIS SITE IS LISTED AS ADDRESS RESTRICTED WHICH TO SOME EXTENT IS TRUE BECAUSE IT IS ON A PRIVATE ROAD (KLINES MILL ROAD) WHICH IS CLOSED BY A GATE. I WAS FORTUNATE TO FIND THE ESTATE MANAGER AND AFTER EXPLAINING I WISHED TO GET A PICTURE FOR THE NATIONAL REGISTRY LISTING OF WIKIPEDIA HE DROVE ME TO THE MILL IN HIS JEEP. THE ROAD IS OPEN FOR PEDESTRIANS AND BICYCLISTS BUT NOT CARS BECAUSE THE BRIDGE ACROSS THE NORTH BRANCH WAS DAMAGED IN A STORM AND IS CLOSED FOR VEHICLES. I EXPRESS MY THANKS AND APPRECIATION TO THE ESTATE MANAGER FOR HIS HELP
