DescriptionLong Eaton (MCR) Station geograph-2399203-by-Ben-Brooksbank.jpg
English: Diesel-hauled empties passing one of the original Long Eaton Stations.
View northwards, towards Toton Marshalling Yard (a mile ahead) and the Erewash Valley ex-Midland main line to Chesterfield, Sheffield etc. The station closed on 2/1/67; the former Sawley Junction, 1½ miles west and on the Trent - Derby line was renamed Long Eaton in 1/68 and remains to serve the town. The locomotive is one of the first English-Electric 'Peak' Type 4 (later Class 44) 2,300hp 1-Co-Co-1's, No. D5 'Cross Fell' - built in 1959.
