On June 30, 1780, the Commonwealth of Virginia subdivided its Kentucky County into three new counties – Fayette, Jefferson, and Lincoln, and two unincorporated areas – one reserverd for Revolutionary War veterans and the other reserved for the Chickasaw Indians.
