Veistos oli vuodesta 1814 Turun akatemiatalon juhlasalissa.Teos siirrettiin 1832 Helsingin vastavalmistuneen yliopiston juhlasaliin, jota suunnitellessaan arkkitehti C.L. Engel oli ottanut huomioon veistoksen sijoituksen. Kansallismielisten ylioppilaiden vaatimuksesta keisarin rintakuva poistettiin 1932 juhlasalista. Teosta säilytettiin Kansallismuseon pihalla. Nykyiselle paikalleen Helsingin yliopiston kirjaston pihalle veistos siirrettiin 1957. -- dia, filmi, väri |
