Summary

Description A platoon of Korean Augmentees to the US Army (KATUSA) soldiers, pose for a group photo a week before graduation from the KATUSA Training Center, Camp Jackson, Republic of Korea, on Oct. 30, 1998. Originally begun in 1950, the KATUSA program was designed to augment US fighting forces just after the breakout of the Korean War. After the armistice KATUSA soldiers remained with 8th Army units to enhance mission capability. Korean enlistees attend a 20 day training program at the center where they refine their English language skills, and learn about American culture as well as US Army structure and methods.
