Description
English: Like his teacher J.-L.-E. Meissonier, Detaille chose military subjects not only from his own era, but also from the reign of Napoleon I (1804-1814). These images recalled the past glories of France. In this winter scene set in the Napoleonic era, a member of the Eleventh Hussar regiment keeps watch.
