DescriptionInterior detail of Congress House, Great Russell Street (1) (geograph 5316360).jpg
English: Interior detail of Congress House, Great Russell Street. Jacob Epstein's war memorial, taking the form of a mother holding her dead child, stands in the top-lit courtyard. The original green marble backing was replaced by mosaic tiles. The floor has hexagonal sky-lights which light the lecture hall below. Epstein had been approached by the TUC to enter its sculpture competition, but replied that, "I have never entered a competition and never will". The TUC gave him the commission after rejecting all fifty-one competition entrants.
