Notes From a book of portraits of the Van Rensselaer family. No artist or date for the original portrait is given. The wikipedia article on Stephen Van Rensselaer IV states that they were married in 1813; however, the bride would have been only 14 that year, and their first child was born in 1819. Taken together with the fashions of the sitters in both portraits and their apparent ages, it is likely that the pair of portraits was made circa 1818, at about the time of their marriage.
