7. maj 1958, Ožbalt: Če govorimo o potapljačih, si človek nehote prikliče v spomin može v nepropustnih gumijastih oblekah in z glavami v kovinskih kroglah, ki se potaplajo pod morsko gladino, da pomagajo pri reševanju potopljenih ladij. Tako so v naših mislih potapljači domala nerazdružljivo povezani zmorjem. Obstaja pa še druga vrsta potapljačev, o katerih ni bilo doslej skoraj še ničesar slišati. Čeprav je njihovo delo - kakor mnogi trdijo - še napornejše od onega v morju, so ljudje o rečnih potapljačih doslej vedeli le malo. Rečni potaplači v vodi ne vidijo ničesar, okoli njih jepopolna tema. Vso delo opravljajo s tipanjem. V vodi delajo tri ali pet ur, neredko pa se zgodi, da traja njihov delavnik ne le osem ur, temveč tudi dvanajst ali več ur, ker pač delo to od njih zahteva. Celotna potapljaška oprema tehta približno 70 kilogramov. To je obleka in bakrena krogla naglavi, potem pa svinčeni čevlji in še plošče, ki jim jih obesijo spredaj in zadaj.
