Beschreibung des Wappens: „Unter goldenem (gelbem) Schildhaupt, darin ein schreitender, herschauender, rot bewehrter und rot bezungter schwarzer Löwe, in Blau ein aus dem unteren Schildrand wachsender goldener (gelber) Abtstab, dem ein silberner (weißer) Schlägel und ein silberner (weißer) Hammer schräg gekreuzt unterlegt ist.“

Beschreibung der Flagge:„Die Flagge des Landkreises ist schwarz-gelb-blau quergestreift mit dem aufgelegten Wappen in der Mitte.“
