Deutsch: Stribeck-Kurve zeigt qualitativ den Zusammenhang zwischen Kraftaufwand bei Bewegung zweier in Kontakt stehenden Oberflächen mit Schmiermittel zwischen den Kontaktflächen (Vertikale Achse = µR oder FR) und der Differenzgeschwindigkeit zwischen den beiden Oberflächen (Horizontale Achse = V ).
1: Grenzreibung (Schmiermittel aus Kontaktstelle herausgedrückt 'Schmierfilmabriss'. Ungeschmierter Kontakt der Oberflächen. Hoher Verschleiß.)
2: Mischreibung (Etwas Schmiermittel im Spalt, aber die Schicht ist nicht dick genug. Oberflächen reiben noch aufeinander. Verringerter Verschleiß.)
3: Flüssigkeitsreibung (Schmiermittelschicht dick genug. Oberflächen voneinander getrennt. Kein Verschleiß durch Reibung.
Eine Erhöhung der Geschwindigkeit führt zu erhöhter Reibung im Schmiermittel selber. Bei Wasser als Schmierstoff wird dieser Bereich der Kurve auch Aquaplaning genannt. Der diesen Effekt nutzende Wassersport heißt Skimboarden, für den ca. 10 mm Wassertiefe ausreichend sind.)
