Summary

Description

Cortinarius thiersii Ammirati & A.H. Smith

Image location: Evergreen Rd., Stanislaus National Forest, Tuolumne Co., California, USA

These were fairly small with caps up to 3.8 cm across. Most had a thin ring of cortina remnants on the upper stem. The spores were ~ 7.4-10.0 X 4.3-6.1 microns and very slightly rough. They were growing on the side of a bank under a conifer mix of mostly cedar and pine. Edit 12-28-2013;

The larger spores, general colors and habitat seem to indicate C. thiersii.
Literature value of spores size; 7.7-10(12) X 4.7-5.8(6.2). Mycotaxon 5, page 390.
