Ancient Chinese Wedding attire

These two cartoonish statues depict the ancient Chinese wedding gowns. Note the red theme which symbolizes happiness and good fortune. No one dresses like the groom on the right anymore. But a slight variation of the bride's dress is still in use in some Chinese wedding nowadays.

In a modern Chinese wedding in Hong Kong, the bride would wear white Western wedding gown to walk down the aisle in church. Then in the wedding banquet in the evening, the bride starts with a red Chinese wedding gown like the one shown on the left of this picture. A tea ceremony to honor and receive gift from the older generation is performed in the traditional gown. Later she changes into the white wedding gown to cut the wedding cake. Towards the last third of the banquet, she changes into a Chinese qipao to say thanks to the guests as they leave the banquet.

Note that different regions in China have different wedding tradition.
