English: Animated diagram illustrating the operation of a charge line generator, a transmission line circuit for generating ultrashort nanosecond pulses of electricity. It consists of a length of transmission line D connected at one end to a DC voltage source V(left) through a resistance Rs which is very large compared to "Z"0 the characteristic impedance of the transmission line, and at the other end through a switch to a resistive load RL which is matched to the characteristic impedanceZ0. When the power supply is connected it will charge up the capacitance of the transmission line to voltage V. Then when the switch is closed, the charged transmission line will be discharged through the load in a precise pulse of duration T = 2D/c, where c is the propagation velocity in the transmission line.
This circuit image could be re-created using vector graphics as an SVG file. This has several advantages; see Commons:Media for cleanup for more information. If an SVG form of this image is available, please upload it and afterwards replace this template with {{vector version available|new image name}}.
It is recommended to name the SVG file "Charge line animation.svg" - then the template Vector version available (or Vva) does not need the new image name parameter.
