Description
English: Mosaic floor of the Chapel of Saint John the Baptist in the Church of Saint Roch, Lisbon. The mosaic floor panel represents an oval armillary sphere, surrounded by garlands of flowers, based on drawings made by Ignazio Stern, a German painter. The paving work began with the oval motif containing the armillary sphere and the strip of winding acanthus. Ignazio Stern was later commissioned to produce the garland of flowers, on 15th July 1745. The group of mosaicists working on the pavement was made up of Guglielmo Paleat, Nicola Onofri and Giuseppe Ottaviani, with Enrico Enuo in charge and responsible for distributing wages.
English: Chão em mosaico da Capela de São João Baptista, na Igreja de São Roque, Lisboa. O painel de mosaico representa uma esfera armilar oval, rodeada de grinaldas de flores, baseado em desenhos de Ignazio Stern, um pintor alemão. A execução do mosaico foi começada pelo medalhão oval com a esfera armilar e os ramos decorativos de acanto. A Ignazio Stern foi posteriormente encomendada a grinalda de flores, a 15 de Julho de 1745. O grupo de artistas que trabalharam o pavimento era constituido por Guglielmo Paleat, Nicola Onofri e Giuseppe Ottaviani, com Enrico Enuo encarregue da direcção e do orçamento.
