Tewfik Pasha (1852-1892) was proclaimed Khedive [ Viceroy ] of Egypt upon his father's [ Ismael Pasha] forced abdication by the British in 1879. his rule was an eventful one. The Egyptian Army mutiny led by Lt.Col. Ahmad Arabi Pasha, forced Tewfik to form a national government with Arabi as Defense Minister. British Forces landed in Alexandria after bombarding the city and at Ismailia in 1882, and Arabi and his Egyptian Forces were defeated at the Battle of Tel al-Kabir on Sopt. 13, 1882. Arabi was exiled to Ceylon.
