DescriptionBoophone disticha infructescence SAplants cropped show pedicels & capsules.jpg
English: Boophone disticha ( family: Amaryllidaceae ): image of a ripening infructescence ( created by SAplants ) cropped and brightened ( by user Flobbadob ) to show detail of elongated pedicels and three-angled seed capsules. Note elegant, sceptre-like form of individual, radial fruits on their long peduncles/pedicels. Note also the attractive purplish-pink markings of the ripening seed capsules, highlighting the three ridges along which they will soon dehisce to shed their seeds when the infructescence breaks loose to form a ‘windball’/ ‘tumbleweed’.
