Summary

Description Photograph of an outsized carving knife and fork made by Beaver Falls Cutlery Works, Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. The knife measured 9 feet 7 inches long. The handles were each made from a whole elephant's tusk, and were carved. The steel knife blade and the fork guard were etched with portraits, pictures and designs. Chinese workers, who were contracted between 1872 and 1877 at the works, helped to make these. The present whereabouts of the knife and fork is unknown.
