Description

Woodcut diagram depicting cast-iron "Boxer" shrapnel shell for British BL 9.2 inch naval gun.
There are 6 longitudinal weakening grooves on the inside of the gunpowder chamber at the base to facilitate the shell breaking up.
The interior of the shell is lined with brown paper and contains 420 2-oz sand shot.


The space between the sand shot is filled with melted rosin.
