Description
Deutsch: Auguste Gräfin zu Stolberg (1753-1835), seit 1783 verheiratet mit dem Andreas Peter Graf Bernstorff. Ölgemälde von Jens Juel. Diese Schwester der Goethe befreundeten Grafen Stolberg wandte sich, vom "Werther" ergriffen, an den Dichter, der ihr, ohne dass beide sich je sahen, die für sein Inneres aufschlussreichsten Briefe (bis 1782) schrieb. Ihren Bekehrungsversuch beantwortete Goethe mit einem seiner herrlichsten Briefe. Sie wurde durch ihren regen Briefwechsel mit dem Dichter und Denker Johann Wolfgang von Goethe bekannt und ging als Goethes Gustchen in die Literaturgeschichte ein.
