DescriptionAstronomical Observatory University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from north.jpg
The Astronomical Observatory of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, located at 901 S. Mathews Avenue in Urbana, Illinois, was built in 1896 and was designed by Charles A. Gunn in the Colonial Revival style. The building was renovated and added to in 1956 and 1966, and the dome was renovated and repainted in 1996. The University's Astronomy Department utilized the building until 1979, when it moved into a larger building, although the 12" Brashear refractor telescope remains in the Observatory; it is used by a student organization.
