Description
Ce dessin est peut-être lié à une légende sur le château du Bousquet, bati au XIVe siècle en Aveyron. Dans la 'Chronique de la Maison de Roquefeuil' (1926), le colonel Daupeyroux raconte que, au XIXe siècle, lors de travaux de rénovation, on a retrouvé deux corps emmurés vêtus de 'robes de brocart' dans les fondations du château. Le seigneur du château, craignant que sa fille amoureuse d'un voisin ne s'enfuie avec lui, les fit emmurer vivants. Il est fort probable que Fragonard ait eu vent de cette histoire et s'en soit inspiré pour son dessin. (E. Bell in cat. exp.
