Summary

Description
English: A Karen woman. The Karens of Siam are purely spirit-worshippers, whose ritual takes the form of sacrifice, with its attendant feasting and heavy drinking of strong rice-spirit. The art of divination is much practised by them, principally by means of the inspection of the bones of slaughtered fowls. The women decorate their costumes with embroidery of grass seeds, wear silver rings in their ears, and after marriage a blue cloth on the head.
