Summary

Description
English: Animation of the trajectory of asteroid on the night of 8-9 November 2011. Orbital paths are shown from the Earth's reference frame. Over the course of the animation (27 hours) the Earth, Moon and asteroid each travel over 7.4 lunar distances (2.8 million kilometers; 1.7 million miles) through space. Arrows represent the asteroids apparent position at hourly intervals. The white arrow represents closest approach at 23:28 (UT). Created by Joe Haythornthwaite. Adapted from original animation taken from NASA.
