Summary

Description
English: Scheme of petroleum or natural gas extraction in conventional and unconventional deposits. Note that the permeable stratum at the left, in which the conventional deposit is located (oil- and gas-saturated rock and water-saturated rock immediately below the reservoir highlighted in colors), becomes non-permeable to the right and contains so-called tight gas that can be produced by using the hydraulic fracturing technique (“fracking”). The mother rock of the conventional oil and gas as well as the tight gas is the hydrocarbon-bearing claystone (“Oil shale”) below. It is an unconventional deposit as well and it can also be produced by means of fracking.
