This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). Takaaki Sano (佐野貴明)
[edit]Takaaki Sano (佐野貴明, born 1982) is a Japanese photographer known for his works themed around his experiences with social withdrawal (hikikomori) and psychiatric hospitalization. His works have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions both in Japan and internationally. In 2021, he won the "MEMORIES" award, selected by Tim Barber, as part of the "IMAnext" program organized by amana.
Biography
[edit]Takaaki Sano was born in Adachi Ward, Tokyo. At the age of 13, he stopped attending school and spent about seven years as a recluse (hikikomori). At 16, he was forcibly admitted to a psychiatric hospital's closed ward, an experience that has greatly influenced his photographic work.[1]
After being discharged from the hospital, he studied under manga artist Shinichi Ishizuka and obtained his high school equivalency diploma in 2002. He later attended Santa Monica College in the United States, earning a degree in liberal arts in 2006.[2]
In 2014, Sano uploaded a photograph of a sunset he had taken during his hikikomori years to Tumblr. The photo caught the attention of London-based singer-songwriter Grimm Grimm and was used as an album cover.[3]
In 2015, while working as a teacher at a Japanese school in Shanghai, one of his photographs attracted the attention of the owner of the gallery "DA ATTIC," leading to his first solo exhibition.[4]
