Redout 2 is a 2022 video game developed by Italian studio 34BigThings and published by Saber Interactive. It is the sequel to the 2016 racing game Redout.

The game is available on PC, Xbox One, Xbox X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch.

Gameplay

Redout 2, like its predecessor, is an arcade anti-gravity racing game where the player pilots high-speed racing ships around numerous race tracks.

Redout 2 features controls typical of most racing games such as accelerating, braking, and turning, but it also features controls akin to those of an aircraft. The player can strafe, pitch, and roll their ship. Strafing moves the ship horizontally without losing speed, which allows the player to turn sharper, navigate chicanes, and when steering in the opposite direction, can be used to drift the ship. Pitching is used to counter the effects of changing elevations at high speeds. An upwards pitch on an upwards slope prevents the ship from being damaged by grinding on the floor. Pitching downwards on a downwards slope prevents a redout (a screen-distorting visual effect) from occurring, and prevents the ship from detaching from the track and crashing. A control that is new to the series is the ability to roll one's ship, which is used during jumps to land on the track without crashing or to access shortcuts.

Redout 2 features eleven racing teams to choose from, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. The player can unlock parts in the career mode to upgrade their ship's performance in a certain area (often trading off the performance of a different statistic). The player can also unlock aesthetic modules, color schemes, and liveries to personalize their ship's appearance. Instead of featuring active and passive power ups, Redout 2 instead assigns a "power rating" to each ship that is determined by the performance upgrades the player has installed. These power ratings serve as a replacement for the ship class and event class systems featured in the first game.

Redout 2 features twelve racing complexes, three tracks per complex, with all tracks being reversible for a total of 72 unique tracks. All tracks are available from the start via arcade mode. Tracks often have several modifiers that can affect the player's racing style, those being gravity, atmosphere, temperature, and hazards. Each modifier affects the player's ship in some way, such as causing it to overheat faster or drift more.

Redout 2's single-player career mode is divided into five leagues, with an additional two leagues available via DLC. Each league is more difficult than the last, with stricter or more challenging win requirements, more aggressive opponents, and more powerful performance upgrade modules as a reward. Each league is divided into numerous events, and each event will reward the player with up to four stars depending on their performance. Three of the stars are earned depending on what position the player finishes the event in. The fourth star (referred to as a "bonus trophy" in the game) is earned by completing a challenge, with the reward often being a new aesthetic piece. The player may only join an event if they have earned enough stars to unlock it and they have a ship with an appropriate power rating.

Redout 2 features six game modes; race, arena race, last man standing, boss, time attack, and training. Race is the standard game mode where the player must finish all laps before their opponent(s) do. Arena race is the same as race mode, but upon destroying their ship, a contender cannot respawn. Damage is also multiplied every lap as well. Last man standing is similar to race mode, but the contender in last place is eliminated upon the completion of a lap and speed is multiplied every lap. Time attack is a time trial mode where the player gets one lap to set the best possible time. Training is a variant of time attack where the player gets infinite laps and the option to disable damage so they can test ship upgrades or learn track layouts and racing techniques.
