"Kapangyarihan" (transl. power) is a song by Filipino indie folk-pop band Ben&Ben featuring the pinoy pop boy band SB19. It is the ninth track from the band's second studio album Pebble House, Vol. 1: Kuwaderno (2021). "Kapangyarihan" was written by Ben&Ben and Pablo, a member of SB19. Sony Music released the song along with the said album on August 29, 2021.
The song was featured as the theme song of the 2024 Filipino historical drama series Pulang Araw.
Background
[edit]Ben&Ben members Paolo and Miguel Benjamin Guico took inspiration in the creation of "Kapangyarihan" by the tragic 2020 Tarlac shooting; which prompted the band to address the pressing issues of police brutality and the abuse of power in the Philippines.
Composition and lyrics
[edit]"Kapangyarihan" combines elements of indie folk and pinoy pop genres, showcasing the unique collaboration between Ben&Ben and SB19. The song is rooted in a blend of acoustic instrumentation and powerful vocal harmonies, characteristic of Ben&Ben's sound. The arrangement features rhythmic guitar strumming, layered harmonies, and a driving beat that enhances the urgency of its message.
