Kaamya Karthikeyan
Kaamya Karthikeyan is an Indian mountaineer from Mumbai, Maharashtra, who became the youngest female to complete the Seven Summits challenge in 2024.[1][2][3] At sixteen years of age, she also became the youngest Indian mountaineer to summit Mount Everest from the Nepal side.[4] In 2021, she was awarded the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar a civilian award for Indian citizens under the age of 18.[5]
Early life
[edit]Kaamya is from Mumbai in India. Her father S. Karthikeyan is a Commander in the Indian Navy and her mother Lavanya Karthikeyan is a homemaker.[6][7] She studies at the city's Navy Children School.
Mountaineering
[edit]Kaamya summited Mount Denali in 2022, becoming youngest in the world to do so at the time.[8] In 2018, she climbed Mount Elbrus, becoming the youngest to complete a ski-descent from the peak.[9] She scaled Mount Kilimanjaro in 2017, Mount Kosciuszko in 2018, Aconcagua in 2020, and Mount Everest and Vinson Massif in 2024.[10][11] She was accompanied by her father on her summits.[11]
