John Santiago is a former professional American football player and played running back. Santiago played professionally in the German Football League (GFL) for the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns. He played college football for the University of North Dakota Fighting Hawks where he was a three time All American.
Early Years
[edit]Santiago was a standout player for St. Francis High School. After finishing his high school career as one of the top players in Minnesota. Santiago signed a letter of intent to attend college and play football for the North Dakota Fighting Hawks. Santiago was named Big Sky Conference freshman of the year and was named an All Conference and All American three seasons in his career 2015-2018 for the Fighting Hawks as a running back,and return specialist. He was considered an NFL prospect.
Professional Career
[edit]After going undrafted in the NFL. Santiago had a mini camp tryout with the Minnesota Vikings but went unsigned. Santiago signed on with Seattle Dragons of the new league XFL but the 2020 season was cancelled. Santiago went on to sign with the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns of the German Football League (GFL) for the 2021 season. Santiago rushed for 615 yards and 12 touchdowns while catching nine passes for 119 yards and another score, he also threw a touchdown pass. He was named to the GFL all star team for his all around play. Santiago resigned with the Unicorns and played in six games of the 2022 GFL season before an injury ended his season.
Post Football
[edit]Santiago has worked as a substitute teacher and a personal trainer since leaving the game as a player.
