Biography
[edit]Early life
[edit]Christos Floros, was born in Athens, Greece in 1993, and moved to Luxembourg with his parents in 1994.[15][16] His father made the decision to bring the family to Luxembourg, after he had already worked for the European Commission in the 1980s.[17] Christos attended the European School of Luxembourg I,[16][18] and served as President of the Pupils' Committee. In 2010 he attended Pratt Institute's Summer School for an Introduction to Architecture.
Education
[edit]He studied architecture in Oxford at Oxford Brookes University[19][20] and completed his Masters in Architecture, European Urbanization, and Globalization[21] in Luxembourg, at the University of Luxembourg. Floros also trained as an actor for 3 years at East 15 Acting School, University of Essex between 2015 and 2018, where he wrote his first play.[22][23][24] He is a fan of, and sources much of his inspiration from Hamilton, the musical.[25]
Professional career
[edit]After graduating from East 15 Acting School he worked as an actor in London, appearing mostly in stage plays.[26][27][unreliable source?] Between 2022 and 2023 he worked for RTL in Luxembourg covering news and politics[28][29] and, produced and hosted Conversations with Christos, a series of talks with Luxembourgish politicians, including Vice-President of the European Parliament Marc Angel,[30] former Deputy Prime Minister Colette Flesch[31] and Mayor of Luxembourg City, Lydie Polfer.[32] His work often focused on immigration and integration issues in Luxembourg.[31] As of 2023, he has worked in Luxembourg's technology sector.[8]
Political career
[edit]Christos Floros is a progressive figure within the Democratic Party, advocating for a pro-European stance.[33][18] In Luxembourg he is known for using social and traditional media to promote political discourse.[17][34][35][36][37]
He joined the Democratic Party in 2017,[18] and represented Luxembourg in the Conference on the Future of Europe with Renew Europe in 2022.
In 2023 he founded Change for Luxembourg,[38] a non-partisan movement to include more residents in Luxembourg in the country's politics, after he noticed that during the COVID-19 pandemic, "half of the volunteers were Luxembourgers, the other half foreigners" in the test centre where he volunteered.[17] He has stated that this experience showed him, that the entire country cares and mobilises in the national interest of Luxembourg, and that is part of the reason why he advocates for the political participation of all people in Luxembourg.[1][39]
In 2024, the Democratic Party announced that Floros would be running on their ticket in the European Elections of 2024, alongside Charles Goerens.[12] He was one of three members of the Young Democrats running on the 2024 ticket.[40][41] He advocates for increased cybersecurity as part of Europe's collective defense.[42][43][44][45]
In October 2024, DP International, the international wing of the Democratic Party, announced the election of Christos Floros as its new president.[8]
