Introduction
[edit]Başar Ünder is a Turkish composer, sound designer, and electronic music artist based in Istanbul. Born in 1984, he completed his undergraduate studies in Sociology at Istanbul University. In 2006, he was invited as a resident composer to the Institut International de Musique Electroacoustique de Bourges (IMEB) in France, supported by the UNESCO Aschberg Bursaries for Artists.[1]
Known for his experimental electronic compositions, he has contributed to various media, including film, theater, and video games. In 2010, Ünder earned a master's degree in Sound Engineering and Design from Istanbul Technical University's Center for Advanced Studies in Music (MIAM). Notably, he received the Best Music Award at the 51st International Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival for his composition in the film "Song of My Mother" (Annemin Şarkısı).[2]
Career
[edit]- Music and Composition: Ünder is known for blending electronic music with narrative elements. His piece "Diving" was featured in the Anthology of Turkish Experimental Music 1961-2014, released by Sub Rosa.[1]
- Film and Theater: He has composed soundtracks for several award-winning films, including Song of My Mother, for which he won the Best Music Award at the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival.
- Academia: Since 2018, he has been a part-time lecturer and research group leader in the Digital Game Design program at Bahçeşehir University.
