In the game, players assume the role of scientists in a vast underground facility, and must escape following an alien invasion. The setting has frequently drawn comparisons to Half-Life.[1][2][3]

Abiotic Factor released as a demo for the February 2024 Steam Next Fest[4] and released via early access on 2 May 2024.[5] The game was nominated for "Best Multiplayer Game" at the 2024 Golden Joystick Awards.[6]
