Samin Tan (born May 10, 1965) is an Indonesian businessman known for his prominent role in the mining industry. He is the former chairman of Asia Resource Minerals (formerly Bumi PLC) and the founder of Borneo Lumbung Energi & Metal, a major coking coal producer in Indonesia. Despite his business successes, his career has been marked by legal challenges, including a bribery case for which he was acquitted.

[edit]Samin Tan was born in Jakarta, Indonesia. He graduated with a degree in accounting from Tarumanagara University in 1987. He began his career as an auditor at PricewaterhouseCoopers, gaining experience in finance and business management.[1]
Career
[edit]Borneo Lumbung Energi & Metal
[edit]In 2007, Tan founded Borneo Lumbung Energi & Metal, focusing on the production of premium coking coal. The company became one of Indonesia's leading suppliers, reaching a peak production of 4.2 million tons in 2012.[2]
Asia Resource Minerals
[edit]In 2011, Samin Tan acquired a controlling stake in Asia Resource Minerals and assumed the role of chairman. His leadership saw the company through financial and operational challenges, cementing his influence in the mining sector.[3]
Legal Challenges
[edit]In February 2019, Tan was accused of bribing Eni Maulani Saragih, a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives, with Rp 5 billion. The alleged bribe was intended to resolve issues related to a mining license held by his subsidiary, PT Asmin Koalindo Tuhup. Tan was arrested by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in April 2021 after being on the run.[4]
In August 2021, the Jakarta Corruption Court acquitted him of all charges, a decision later upheld by the Indonesian Supreme Court in June 2022.[5]
