Assassinations

[edit]

This category should not be in assassinations, @AHI-3000:. Please stop edit-warring on this issue. I have asked you several times on extremely similar pages to take this to the talk page. Mason (talk) 05:10, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have asked you several times to stop edit waring. Please stop adding assassinations without discussion. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Category:Politicians_killed_in_the_Mexican_Drug_War&oldid=1213627891 Mason (talk) 13:36, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@AHI-3000 Please stop overapplying assassinations to categories. And when someone has reverted you, the norm is to take it to the talk page, not just repeatedly add it back without even an edit summary. Mason (talk) 13:40, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Smasongarrison: Why do you think these are not assassinations? A politician getting killed in a conflict is very much a politically motivated targeted killing, and therefore an assassination. This is especially true for modern wars in which politicians are more like civilian bureaucrats instead of aristocratic warlords actively leading troops into battle. And then there's the Mexican Drug War, which isn't even a conventional civil war, it's a massive gang war in which criminal organizations are putting hits out on politicians who oppose their interests. If that's not assassination I don't know what is. AHI-3000 (talk) 18:47, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The category does not say assassination. The category says "killed". There is no reason to assume that the killing is politically motivated. If you want this to be limited to politically motivated deaths, then propose a rename. You are making an assumption that the deaths are politically motivated or that the person is being killed because of their profession. Mason (talk) 19:14, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Smasongarrison: Killed, murdered, assassinated, point is that these Mexican politicians were not killed for no reason, they were victims of targeted killings (assassinations) by cartels. Your reasoning is overly rigid. AHI-3000 (talk) 19:45, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think your reasoning makes too many assumptions. You are welcome to propose renaming the category. Mason (talk) 19:46, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Smasongarrison: No need to rename, your standards are not somehow better than mine. AHI-3000 (talk) 19:51, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
When did I say that my standards were better? What I am saying is that the present name is broader than what you want to include. A CFD would settle who belongs in the category. If you think that it is obvious, then a CFD will agree with you. Mason (talk) 20:03, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Smasongarrison: Do you really think the name of this category is too broad? "Killed" in the context of this category means they were murdered, and politicians who were murdered in this drug war didn't just die incidentally from an accidental car crash, they were targeted for death because they are politicians who got on someone's bad side. AHI-3000 (talk) 20:23, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I, personally, do not think that the name is too broad for the category. However, I am trying to reach a comprise by narrowing the name to match your interpretation of the scope. Because I'd rather not have to constantly have this discussion. What I am suggesting is a path to a compromise. Mason (talk) 22:17, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
