Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, please be sure to sign your name on Talk and vote pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date, or three tildes (~~~) for just your name. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome!

You added a link but you also blanked half the article :) - the preview button is your friend :) No worries though, I've fixed it. -- Tawker 23:00, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Selfish request

I don't suppose you could create for yourself a userpage, could you? Because when I go through the list of Newly-Created Pages, one of the indicators I use for "possible new user; check all contributions carefully for vandalism/garbage" is a redlink to a userpage.

No big deal, really - just that it would make things a bit easier for me. DS 15:41, 4 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Frederick the Great

Hello Markwiki! I noticed you added several quotes from Voltaire to Frederick II of Prussia. Would you mind providing the source for the quotes so they can be properly mentioned in the References section? You can mention them there or here (and I would then incorporate it into the article). Also, you deleted the interwiki links from the article in your recent edit. I will restore them. Happy editing! Olessi 19:08, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Footnotes has an excellent guide to including the footnotes within the article's text. Also, it's good to sign your posts on talk pages with ~~~~. Cheers, Olessi 20:23, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Robin Hood

Hey Markwiki! When you accidentally removed some of the info before, is it possible you had mistakenly highlighted a chunk of the text and hit the spacebar, thereby removing it? To restore it, all I had was go to the previous version of the article, highlight and copy the text missing from your edited version, and then paste the missing material at the end of the current article. Hope that helps to explain what I did. If you need help in the future, also keep in mind Wikipedia:Help desk. Cheers! Olessi 02:11, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ibn Said

Hi, I've asked a question on Talk:Ibn Said. Could you please take a look when you have time? Thanks, Picaroon (t) 21:54, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Never mind, I figured it out. Picaroon (t) 22:40, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Another editor has added the {{prod}} template to the article UrZah, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Speedy deletion of Itijjuaq

A tag has been placed on Itijjuaq requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the article or have a copy emailed to you. -Zeus- [t|c] 00:03, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Rick Geyer

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Rick Geyer, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Unsourced BLP since 2006 which does not assert notability per WP:BIO

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Unreferenced BLPs

Hello Markwiki! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 2 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 92 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

  1. Timmy Yip - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL
  2. Isabel Maria de Gama - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Deletion discussions

If you are not aware of it, you may find the bot report Wikipedia:WikiProject_LGBT_studies/Article_alerts of interest. Not only does it currently list your article marked for deletion, there are a couple of other deletion discussions that appear strongly related. Cheers Ash (talk) 05:38, 5 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Markwiki. I see you contributed the above article back in 2005. I've just come across it as part of unreferenced BLP cleanup, and it's got me a bit stumped. I can't seem to find any reliable sources discussing this person. Is she also known under a different spelling, perhaps? Can you point me to anything I can use to verify the article contents? Thanks, Gonzonoir (talk) 13:33, 30 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your quick reply - I think I'll ask over at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Democratic Republic of the Congo and some others, and if I can't find any sources with their help I'm inclined to take this to WP:PROD. Let me know if you think of anything else. Cheers, Gonzonoir (talk) 14:16, 30 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article Isabel Maria de Gama has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Though this looks notable, I can find no reliable sources to verify this person's existence. (Many Google hits appear to source from the article here.) The page's creator, on request, could not remember sources (this is an old article), and I've had no response at relevant Wikiprojects in a week.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Gonzonoir (talk) 09:56, 8 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated Category:Historic figures whose sexuality is debated (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) for deletion. Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at the discussion page. Thank you. ukexpat (talk) 18:24, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Social Structure in Kingdom of Kongo article

I have noted your changes in the article on the Kingdom of Kongo and references to matrilineal succession, and also to the chibadi. Please note that I am proposing to remove a good deal of this, and I want you to see this first. The institution you refer to relates to South East Africa, specifically Mwenemutapa and surrounding kingdoms in today's Mozambique and Zimbabwe. They do not relate to the Kingdom of Kongo. You do have a reference to Antonio de Oliveira de Cadornega's book, which is about kibanda in the Kimbundu-speaking portions of today's Angola. However, this institution was not reported in the Kingdom of Kongo, and I have no reason to believe it existed there. There is a discussion of the kibanda in Angola (Kimbundu region) and in Brazil in James Sweet's book Recreating Africa, this is a well documented treatment of the subject. I'll wait a few days to make the changes, so you can consider or discuss it. Beepsie (talk) 18:28, 27 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Today part of

Heya,

do we really need these excessively long lists of "Today part of"? While it's nice that you compiled the information (and it's mostly complete, too), it creates disproportionally large infobox sections esp. for the biger empires like Rome or Byzantium. It looks ugly, and when the list of states becomes the longest item in the box, it kind of defeats the purpose of those infoboxes.

At least I'd suggest dropping the flags and just listing the names in a simple enumeration - "Albania, Algeria, Andorra, Armenia..." and so on.

I appreciate your enthusiasm, but please also consider the looks and due weight of these lists. :)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited List of Uncle Remus characters, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Polecat and Croak (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

A tag has been placed on Category:LGBT history in Syria indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion".
