I have been looking at the d'Aguilar family tree and I have found an article from the Calcutta Gazette - Thursday 31 October 1799 "36 Foot - George Charles D'Aguilar, Gent to be Ensign without purchase, vice John Fraser, Promoted in the 88th foot. 24th September 1799." This is claiming he was going into the 88th Foot "Connaught Rangers" and he was coming from the 36 Foot (Herefordshire) Regiment. The fact that he did not purchase his commission, would suggest he earned it on merit in the 36 Foot. That article is available on the BNA LMRT (talk) 15:46, 6 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
