Rhapsody in Blue

In 1942, Arturo Toscanini invited him for a performance of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, the first for orchestra and soloist, which was a resounding success and made him a household name.

What do the highlighted words mean? Ferde Grofe made 2 orchestrations, one in 1926, the latter in 1942. The first one can be played by as few as 23 musicians but it requires a lot of doubling-up. The latter is for a standard-size symphony orchestra; however, the 2 versions differ only in the number of woodwinds and brass. If this reference is to the first performance of the 1942 orchestration by Ferde Grofe, it needs to be stated a little more clearly. -- JackofOz (talk) 07:10, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You're right, Jack. I take it to mean that it was the first time that particlar orchestra, conductor, and pianist had played that piece.THD3 (talk) 14:13, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Discography

There's an expansion tag on the discography section. There's an extensive list here: [1]. That list includes some duplication because of compilations, but is a good source of information for anyone looking to expand the list. I'm not sure how much thorough the list is expected to be.DavidRF (talk) 21:19, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A Walk on the Wild Side

I'm reading Wild's memoirs, over 700 pages long. Will be adding information as warranted, beefing up and sectionalizing the page. I had no idea Wild was so active as a teacher for so long.THD3 (talk) 12:35, 31 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
